We have seen certain brands and models quality fluctuate over the years.
Companies sometimes change ownership, change heating element brands, change the source from where they get their parts from, etc.
I have personally even seen one brand of distillers have rust on brand new stainless steel one week, and the next shipment we received, the stainless steel was fine. So obviously even if a certain brand uses the same grade stainless steel, where they aquire their stainless steel from can affect the durability, and also the quality of water the distiller produces.
It is my feeling that there is a large difference in the quality of stainless steel on the market. I've noticed a leeching effect from some stainless steel into the water, from companies that don't pay as much attention to their stainless steel.
